TIGER AND DRAGON
KONZERT
Evelyn Glennie, Taipei Chinese Orchestra

COMPOSITIONS BY PEI-KUAN, JANET JIERU CHEN, TAN DUN, YIU-KWONG CHUNG

Tradition and innovation: the Taipei Chinese Orchestra performs contemporary works for classical Chinese instruments. This concert together with the Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie is focused on compositions by Tan Dun, well-known among other works for his film score for “Tiger and Dragon“.
The director of the orchestra, the Taiwan composer Yiu-Kwong Chung, wrote his “Concerto for Percussion and Chinese Orchestra” especially for Evelyn Glennie. The percussionist who has been virtually deaf since childhood has trained every fibre of her body to be able to perceive acoustic vibration – instead of hearing the music, Glennie permits herself to be “touched” by the sounds produced in performance.
