At the beginning of the 21st century, we have experienced an almost unbroken series of catastrophes, crises and other misfortunes of all descriptions. The force of nature, the striving for economic power and religious fanaticism have all made our world a much less secure place. As soon as we think we have achieved a balanced situation in the world, the next misfortune erupts.
